We have recently been using a tip that I had heard of before and yet never tried. My family LOVES homemade cookies and brownies right out of the oven. So, since we are not buying any more pre-packaged snacks and desserts in order to save to give...we wondered how we were going to get that wonderful conveinence without the price. Maybe you wondered the same thing?
Well, what we have been doing is making a full batch of cookie dough (our family is in love with oatmeal and chocolate chip!). Then instead of baking up like 100 cookies in one day, which wears me out, we have begun "flash freezing" the cookies and them storing them in the freezer in a large zip-top bag.
Here's how it works (many of you already know this wonderful tip!)...
*Make your family's favorite cookie dough (double it if you really like cookies!)
*Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil
*Scoop our your desired size of dough for each cookie (we use rounded tablespoon sized)
*Place the scoops onto the lined cookie sheet close together but not touching to get as many as possible on it
*Then just slip that cookie sheet full of raw cookies into the freezer for about 15-20 minutes until they are hardened
*Place them in a large zip-top bag and place in the freezer
*Repeat these steps until you have finished all the cookie dough
The "flash freezing" method allows those balls of dough to stay hard and not stick to each other. Then, any time you want warm, fresh, homemade cookies that are YUMMY...all you have to do is open that baggie and pop those goodies in the oven and enjoy! And truthfully, if you do a large batch you might only have to do this once a month...but with our family it's more like twice a month :-) But, that is still not a lot of time for such a yummy investment!
Easy enough? Yep! And to think that you probably have all the ingredients you need for yummy cookies in your pantry without spending almost $3 for about 12 large cookies at the grocery store! Today the girls and I (they did almost all of the recipes themselves!) made about 4-5 dozen cookie dough balls and froze them for about the price of one package of cookies at the store...and they are much better!!
So what are you waiting for...go make some of these!
