Week Catch up!

Thanks to all of you who have contacted me about supporting my trip to Central & Eastern Europe both through prayer and through financial donations! What a blessing to have you alongside this journey with me!

We have been enjoying a fun week so far! Every morning I go to workout before Jay and the girls wake up. Tuesday morning I had the most wonderful surprise waiting for me a I topped the hill from our apartment complex. God had a show performing! What a wonderful way to start the day...and can you imagine the show from that hot air balloon to the left of the sun (you have to look hard to the left to see it)? What a show...isn't our God amazing?
On Wednesday nights, I get to work with the children's drama and choir called Ultimate Adventure. I have been with them for about 6 months now and we have already performed one musical and are working on our next one. We have a great group of kids and they enjoy it so much! Steve our music pastor leads and we just help out. We don't normally meet on the stairs, but he wanted to get them in rows and not sitting in chairs to sing this song. Here is a little sample of the wonderful time I am honored to enjoy every week...

Today, we had to be at the Dr. for those yearly, before school well visits. Our appointment at 8am and we found out about half way through that they BOTH were getting their 2nd chicken pox booster. Virginia also had to get her 2nd Hep. A shot! They were not happy and I had NO idea so had not warned them at all. I am one of those very honest parents that walk them through the whole thing before we get there so that there are not any surprises. You should have seen their faces when they heard the word SHOT!
Luckily, the Dr. left the room and the 3 of us were in the room alone long enough for me to talk them down. We discussed about how panic makes everything worse, how clenching our arms makes it hurt more, and the importance of prayer...and BREATHING!

Virginia was really upset before...but as the shot went into her arm...she STOPPED crying! Go figure! We talked about how that was a learning moment. She knows now not to anticipate how much something is going to hurt...just wait and see. She said it wasn't bad at all!

Anli was her typical precious self. I wish I had a video (it wasn't the time to pull out the video camera in their moment of duress) to share with you how cute that girl is! She began to pace and talk it out. She said, "I am not going to panic right now. It's just a pinch. It's the best thing for me, because getting the chicken pox as an adult (are you dying yet?) is much worse (still pacing). I am going to breath so that I won't tighten my arm muscles. That makes it worse...right mom?"

That moment is logged into my memory. I love that about her! It helps that she reasons at the age of a 15 year old too (we learned that from her testing!). She is able to work it all out in her mind and she didn't shed ONE tear or even tighten up at all. It was amazing! I couldn't have done that well.
Anli chose a real digital camera that even takes movies! It was less than $20 (she had to put some of her allowance with my donation) but she is so thrilled to have her "own" camera. I told her she could share some on the blog from time to time!
So, after that not so pleasant surprise their mommy promptly took them to Wal-Mart for a wonderfully pleasant surprise! They have spent the afternoon enjoying both the band aids and the presents. They are both so different, but what a precious moment to hold them in my arms as they endured pain for the good.

It reminded me how we are in the arms of God each day. Yes, we have hard things that are complete surprises to us. They hurt and sting. But, just like my girls got to endure that shot wrapped in my arms on my lap today...we are always in the arms of our Heavenly Father. And unlike their finite mommy...our Father knows in advance and is loving and preparing us all the way. He knows that those trials that test our faith are making us more like Christ! What a beautiful God we serve!

This weekend we are off to some fun, fun, fun times! I'll post later with photos!

Please Join My Prayer Team!

I am excited to share a wonderful opportunity I have been invited to be a part of September 4-15th. About a month ago, I was invited by Paula Hemphill, Women's Mobilization Director for the International Mission Board, to join their vision trip to Central & Eastern Europe (CEE). I was humbled and thrilled to be asked to join this group of women's leaders from around the United States.

The reason I am writing to you all today, is that I greatly desire your prayers as we prepare to leave, while we are traveling, as we minister there in Central & Eastern Europe, and as we travel home. Many of you have journey with me to India and Africa and I covet you each as not only friends but partners along the road!

This trip is designed to meet the many regional officers positioned in the Prague, Russia, the Ukraine, and Poland. Our group of 14 will travel to Prague to meet those who are in leadership over this vast region and hear about all the things God is doing. We will be blessed to meet women who are making an impact all over CEE!

After we have met and ministered in Prague, we will divide into smaller teams and leave for our specified regions. I will be with Paula Hemphill in Krakow, Poland for the remainder of the trip. We will be working in the rural areas with women and ministering to the poor of Poland. We will also have the opportunity to prayer walk in Auschwitz, Poland and meet with various ladies who minister among the Jewish people.

Finally, I covet your prayer covering as I will be speaking at a women's conference in Krakow while we are there. I am seeking God's guidance on the words that He would have me bring to these precious women. As you can see, I will need you to work over time!!

Here is a quick list of my prayer needs at this time:
*Glory be brought to God only through every day we prepare, travel, and return!
*Focus personally on daily devotion to God's Word, prayer, Bible study, and witnessing.
*Increased faith that God will provide the financial needs for my trip.
*A continued spirit of unity in our group...as we will not meet until we arrive in Prague.
*Travel mercies and health from September 4-15th.
*Opportunities to encourage, exhort, share, minister, witness, and love those of Central & Eastern Europe.
*Divine appointments throughout our journey!
*God's Word to be proclaimed through me as I speak to the ladies of Poland.

Thank you so much for joining me again on God's journey! I am so blessed to have people like you in my life. I am humbled at the support and friendship you have been!
If you have any questions or comments, please email me at frances@desertflowerministries.com.

I look forward to sharing what God does in the days ahead!

Dream Team Reunion!

This weekend was so awesome! It was great to get back together with some of our Families on Mission team members. On Saturday, the guys were invited by Ralph to play golf in the morning and they had a blast! Jay said they played scramble so everyone got to do their best and it went quicker than a regular 18 hole would. So, they were back at the Barber's house (the one in the photo above...GORGEOUS!!!) by the time the moms met there with all the kids.

Here's a photo of the kids...as usual mine are the only girls around! You wouldn't have known it though! They had the best time with everyone and we couldn't believe how great they all got along together.

Once the guys got there, we loaded up all the minivans and headed over to the Barber's Country Club that is a part of the subdivision they live in. It was gorgeous and no one else was even there. We had the place to ourselves. The Barbers graciously had them open the grill and made our lunches to order! What a blessing their family was to allow us all to enjoy what God has given them! We had such a blast swimming and playing together.

Thanks Ralph and Patti for opening your home and being so generous to feed this crowd not only a huge lunch...but a Slopes BBQ dinner too!

Julie, Kim, and I enjoyed talking and sitting on the edge while the kids and dads played in the pool! It was a perfect day!

Jay and I had a great time hanging out with our team and each other! We can't wait until next summer when we hope some of this team will be a part of the location we are coordinating.

During adult swim, the kids headed to the playground and the sand! I'm sure the pool crew wasn't very thrilled that they were playing in the sand...and then heading back into the pool!

Next, we loaded up in some golf carts that they had provided for us and went to the driving range and putting green. Anli and Virginia enjoyed driving the golf cart for us!

OK, this experience of Anli driving started me thinking about her REALLY driving in a few short years...AGGGG!This is Trey and he was a whiz at driving this golf cart! He is the Barber's son...so he has his own golf cart at home too. The kids spent the afternoon at their house taking rides through the yard and the neighborhood riding in it!Daddy was in charge of teaching about golf. I have NO idea about golf and tried to hit a few myself...one time I never even got close to the ball. The girls did really well though!

After golf, we headed over to the indoor tennis facility and we all enjoyed playing tennis. Anli is barefoot while playing...and I can tell you from having to play barefoot myself for a while...it HURTS! But, she never noticed at all! She played for a while, but then found out that she could organize the balls for the ball machine and that was where we found her the rest of the time. She is so like her daddy...see below...

Jay helped out by cleaning up the courts with this ball machine.

Virginia spent most of the time in front of the ball machine working on her hitting. Sometimes the balls came a little fast and hard...she looks like she is fighting wild balls off here! What a stance! After all the fun at the Country club, we headed back to the Barber's house to shower and relax. The kids ran wild, played Rock Band and Guitar Hero, rode golf carts, played pool and basically we didn't see them all afternoon. Until the food arrived...yummy Slopes BBQ and tons of desserts. Julie and her family made homemade ice cream that was out of this world!

Virginia spent most of her time with this little fella...Sonny. He is the best Chihuahua in the world. He never yapped or ran around at all. He was like her little baby. He loved it too! She now wants one of her own.About the time we were leaving, they got the ramp out! Anli looks like some kind of Xgames girl with that helmet. She had a blast and did really well. Needless to say, as a mom of girls, I don't see much of this kind of stuff often. I was a little nervous...but she survived just fine!

Virginia tries with a scooter! She is the slow and steady child who does not take risks! Good girl...
Well, that was our crazy weekend! If you want to have these kinds of memories yourself, you should think about signing up for Families on Mission with the North American Mission Board. Check the link by clicking on the word above to take you there for yourself. It is amazing and we can't wait to go back next year. We have already planned our next reunion for January...we're headed to the mountains and skiing! Can't wait!

Whew...what a weekend!

This weekend was the BEST! We were so busy with so many fun things that this may be a very long post with lots of pictures. We started out with a wonderful Thursday night at the mall. We love the mall...and hardly every buy anything but food. So, usually it's a fun cheap night out together.

We did splurge a little this time to take a ride on some of the fun things at the mall.

Yes, the girls are getting a little large for these rides! But, they had a blast on them!

On Friday morning we headed over to our favorite pottery spot All Fired Up. We had painted some pottery and needed to pick it up, and while we were there we redeemed our $20 worth of free pottery. Yes, we have been here enough to gain $20 of free pottery and we spent all morning working on a precious salt and pepper shaker for our table. We all worked on it!

Anli worked on the salt shaker.

Virginia did the pepper. We picked the colors of our tablecloth and then let them at it. I can't wait to pick them up!

From there we headed over to a park we used to go all the time that we call "Wally World." It was overcast so it wasn't at all hot. We enjoyed playing like school kids all over the place!

Anli is an amazing climber and she rocks these bars. But, I'm so glad I caught this expression! She's a riot!

Daddy cheers Anli on as she tries to skip rings...she's always taking things to another level.

How cute are these two? What you don't see is me laying on a tire below them trying to get a photo that isn't washed out by the sky behind them...that would have made an interesting photo!

How precious is this? I can't believe my girl is 9...last year in single digits!

We played a fun games of hide and seek. I laughed and laughed as Jay tried to "find" the girls! It's a HUGE playground and it's easy to get turned around when you are the seeker.

In the middle of hide and seek, it started rain. So, we literally ran as fast as we could to the car for a Bruester's ice cream run. They offer a free second scoop if it is raining when you get there. So, we have started taking the DeBusk's idea and have enjoyed every time!

So, in the spirit of a "cheap" weekend...we shared the scoops since Jay didn't want any ice cream. The girls loved sharing and tasting every one's choice...yummy treat for under $5 for three people total!

That night we headed over to Douglasville for a reunion with our Families on Mission team. It was the start to a wonderful time of fun, fellowship, encouragement, and FOOD! Here are a few of the kids taking a quick break...but I will have to share the rest of the reunion tomorrow...there are just too many photos and fun times to share right now! It needs it's own day.

Please pray!

Today, some of my very closest friends are boarding a plane from India and heading home after a very difficult time there for the past 16 days. I have included a link to one article from the Hyderabad newspaper this week that will give you the information. Thankfully, the paper got a part of each name wrong! God is so good. They were also on the news too...it was a scary time! But, God has kept them safe.

Please pray that they will be able to make their flight and be home safely on Saturday. Please also continue to pray for the group in India that will continue to share God's love as a part of their lives. We take our freedom so for granted!

I'm sorry for the lack of post, but I haven't been able to get onto blogger for some reason. But, I'll post more tonight from our week!

What a wonderful memory!

Before we left for ICRS last week, we went to Northside Hospital to visit our friends the Hunts and their twins. Many of you know and check on their twins through their Caringbridge site. But, if you haven't heard about this family please check their site for the story of miracles and blessings. These little girls were born at 25 weeks (40 weeks is full term). They were only 1 day older than the cut off Northside has for considering them "viable"...meaning if they had been born one day earlier they would not have been helped to live. What a miracle!

Since the girls were gone that night, we headed up to the hospital and spent some wonderful time with Nicki, Steve, Callie, and Sarah Kate. It was amazing to see them and behold how great they are doing. We took Nick and Steve out to dinner and enjoyed time to fellowship and catch up. It was great to have about 2 hours just to hear how the are doing and to encourage them.
Then, we headed back up the hospital and were able to see (with Nicki and Steve) the girls in the crib together for the first time! They had not touched since they were in Nicki's tummy. It was amazingly peaceful and there was a flurry of cameras, videos, and tears. It was so precious. God was so kind to allow us to be there with them for such a monumental step.

Thanks to all our friends who follow and pray for this family. They are always encouraged by the comments people leave and the prayers lifted up for their family. It was truly a blessing to see these gifts from God!

ICRS recap

Well, I have caught up on some much needed sleep and spent tons of time with my girls over the past 2 days (though Anli came home sick...she is much better now). I have cried (in the good way over God's kindness to me) and spent time in God's Word processing all that happened this past week.

I don't think I can go over everything, so this will be a simple recap of the week. We were so very busy that we forgot to take pictures most of the time! I know, I'm not sure what happened to my brain. But, I did get a few that will help me share about the week.

Sunday was an amazing day of worship! We enjoyed challenging words from Anne Graham Lotz about keeping Jesus the focal of our lives, ministries, and jobs. It was great to get the chance to meet so many people and worship with them. There were over 50 countries represented at this convention! What an opportunity to see a little glimpse of heaven as we worshipped together raising hands and lifting voices to God Almighty!I told you that as I went to the restroom before the service began...I met with Karen Kingsbury and her mom. We visited for a while and enjoyed sharing what God was doing in our lives. She was truly amazing in her humility and love of others (see former post). That night we went to a concert that featured Nicole C. Mullen. They had lots of artists share about the power of music in their lives...along with retail owners who shared stories about people who were affected by the music lyrics of certain song. It was very powerful to hear those stories and worship together again. Nicole sings "Redeemer".OK, you HAVE to get this CD when it comes out. This band is a family who are all classically trained musicians...two from Julliard. They sing and play all sorts of instruments desiring to "bring the Renaissance of music back to the church. " They are the Annie Moses Band and their Christmas CD is due out in November.Jeremy Camp was awesome and the testimony he has of loosing his first wife is inspiring to us all. He was much more than a musician...he was an encourager.
The floor was always buzzing as over 10,000 people, 500 retailers, and 50 countries were represented. It was organized chaos...and so much fun! This is just one of the numerous examples God gave me to individually share His work in my life and our ministry. This sweet lady ran up to me after the book signing was over and asked if we could talk and if there were any books left. God truly blessed our time. I will share tomorrow the amazing things God taught me this trip. I have shared a few things and I want to expand on those deeply. I have been changed by those things God shared with me. This is photo of the intimacy God brought to such a huge convention. Here is the only photo of any book signing. This was the last lady that came through...and Jay was able to run out of the booth and get a photo of this sweet lady. It was really busy during both signings (we signed over 150 books in one hour...that's about 1 book every 15 seconds). So we didn't have time for photos and videos. It never even crossed our minds! We were just so thrilled to have the honor of meeting that many people and talking with them for just a brief moment. It was humbling and joyous to see God's work all over the globe!
