Our first day...

Saturday morning, we got up and took our Beagle Pacey to the kennel and headed to Bryson City, North Carolina. The drive was gorgeous and only took us around 2 1/2 hours. When we pulled into the Sleep Inn that would be our home for the next week...we were bombarded by the summer staff with video cameras and big smiles. NAMB has college students called "summer missionaries" that are working all summer with FOM (Families On Mission). Jay and I both were summer missionaries during college in Virginia and Panama City, FL.
The excitement was evident as we checked in and settled into our room. We headed to the indoor pool and met lots of new friends that would soon feel like our second family!
We had a catered dinner from the local BBQ joint and it was AWESOME! We headed to our evening worship service and then back to the hotel for a good night sleep before our day of worship and training.
While the girls and I nodded off to sleep...Jay was up until midnight getting ready for his sermon the next morning. He had been called by our Project Coordinator the night before at 10pm to ask him if he would pulpit supply for a pastor who had a stroke. He was honored...but not at all ready to plan a sermon with 36 hours of notice!
Our journey was just beginning and it was off to a great start...
