Winter Fun in Boone!

We had such a great time last weekend with our Families on Mission group in Boone! We got a late start (because of some tests I had to go through) and so we got to Boone later that night. But...it was SNOWING! It was gorgeous since the moon was full and as we would wind up the mountain on solitary roads we just watched the light on the snow banks. It was gorgeous! Well, when we got to the gravel road leading to the house we were all staying in...we couldn't make it up the hill! The minivan isn't the best thing to tackle a slippery hill 4 inches deep in fresh powder snow! So...we had to get into our snow gear, pack an overnight bag, and hike up the HUGE hill about half a mile to the cabin! Talk about an adventure...
We didn't pack a flashlight (I know!) so we had to rely on the moon to light the way! Here Daddy is hiking with the huge bag of overnight stuff with Virginia by his side. Our girls were thrilled to be out in the snow and since they are rock climbers...this was a walk in the park...although a very slippery walk.

A wonderful man who lived on the same street and had chains on his tires stopped and took Jay back down the hill to get ALL our bags for us! We were the first ones to arrive and had no idea how long the others would take to get there. So, we got our stuff in the house and headed out to play in the SNOW!!

The snow was really deep in many places! The girls had such a blast making snow angels, running in the snow, and just basically burying themselves in it! Look behind Virginia and you can see how deep her snow angel was in the snow! It was at least 2 feet deep in the drifts!

This place in the yard was REALLY deep! Anli was almost lost in all the snow. I can honestly say this was a dream come true for us! Our friends arrived later in their 4 wheel drive Tahoe and the kids went back out to play in the snow. Our kids did not get in bed until MIDNIGHT! But, who cares? That's what wonderful vacations are for...especially for southern kids who don't get this kind of snow very often!
